The leader of the Akwa Ibom state house of assembly and member representing Oruk Anam state constituency, Rt. Hon. (Sir) Udo Kierian Akpan has debunked the ongoing rumour peddled by members of the APC in Akwa Ibom that results for 2019 elections will be written and announced from Abuja as there will be no electoral materials for conduct of elections. While addressing his kinsmen, Rt. Hon. Udo Kierian Akpan dismissed the information as ridiculous. He reiterated that elections in the state as usual will be conducted at INEC accredited polling units across the state and results recorded right from the units. He emphasised that there is no possibility that results of any polling unit or ward will be written outside the state. Sir Kierian made this known on Saturday, 23rd December while addressing thousands of constituents mainly made up of clan heads and spouses across the 9 clans of Oruk Anam; 130 political elders across the 13 wards of Oruk Anam; village heads and wives; village council secretaries; village council chairmen; family heads; village youth chairmen and their secretaries across the 168 villages in Oruk Anam at a get-together meeting held at his instance at Ikot Esenam.
While addressing the guests, Rt. Hon. Udo Kierian Akpan thanked the royal fathers and other cadre of leadership at the village level for maintaining peace and harmony in their various communities. He called on them to remain faithful, loyal and honest to the government of the day just like their predecessors as they are not only seen as custodians of cultures and traditions but rightly perceived as the government closest to the people. Speaking further, the house leader called on the traditional rulers and Oruk Anam people generally to support the reelection of their in-law, Gov. Udom Emmanuel whose achievements in Oruk Anam he stated are unmatched by any previous government. According to him, “nobody has ever done for Oruk Anam what His Excellency Deac. Udom Emmanuel has done. It has never happened that a governor in less than 3 years signed and financed 3 roads for us. We can’t betray our in-law. Go and ask them what they did for us despite my pleading for 8 years. Betraying Gov. Udom Emmanuel is taking Oruk Anam 300 degrees away from progress, it will not happen. Our loyalty is to the governor. If anyone else is destined to be a governor, let that person exercise patience and come after 2023.”
Also speaking at the event, a telecommunication business mogul and PDP flag bearer for the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam federal constituency, Mr Unyime Idem, thanked the executive and members of the PDP in Oruk Anam for the role they played leading to his emergence as the PDP candidate for the House of Representative election-2019. Mr Idem promised to restore within two years the lost glory of the constituency which has been neglected for the past 8 years because of present representation. As a successful entrepreneur, he promised to bring his wealth of experience in the business world to the management of the country’s dying economy. According to him, ‘ My Representation will restore Ukanafun and Oruk Anam LGAs to the Development Map of Nigeria.” “I am an entrepreneur, Atiku is an entrepreneur when he sees my profile he will want to work with me, and when we work together, I will be able to create more dividends, Voice and the recognition of Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the committee of well represented Federal Constituencies in Nigeria”.
The Oruk Anam chapter chairman of the Peoples Democratic party, Pastor Jacob King in his remarks during the event while calling for support for all PDP candidates, urged registered voters who are yet to obtain their permanent voters’ cards from the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) to do so. All the speakers called for support for the election of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Obong Christopher Ekpenyong as the senator for Ikot Ekpene senatorial district and for the reelection of Gov. Udom Emmanuel as well as all PDP candidates in the 2019 elections.
The traditional rulers alongside other participants in the meeting were according to the spirit of the season feted by Rt. Hon. Udo Kierian Akpan and Mr Unyime Idem.
